Sub-Weapons

These are the Sub-Weapons. Their use reaches from damaging Enemies, each with a different style of attack (and direction), over absorbing Projectiles or Magic, to reading the Tablets and Notes of dead Explorers the Player crosses throughout the Game and even for summoning the Guardians of La-Mulana.

While some Sub-Weapons have a limited Use until you stock-up on them (e.g. Shurikens), other Sub-Weapons last forever or until you replace them with a even more effective Item (e.g. Buckler/Silver Shield). Ammunition for Stock-Plus-Weapons can be found in Shops, found in Pots or get dropped from Enemies. The only exception here are the Bullets and the Ankh Jewels, since they can only be bought/found throughout the Game. They are in the lower select Item tray on the Item Screen(F2).

Damaging Sub-Weapons

Shuriken

This subweapon fires straight forward. It deals little damage, but is quite fast to use. Lemeza can find it in the Guidance Gate at F-2.

Throwing Knife

This subweapon travels along the ground. Unlike other subweapons, it does not disappear after hitting enemies. It is located in the Mausoleum of the Giants at A-2.

Spear

This subweapon fires directly below the player and can pass through obstacles. It can be found in the Tower of Ruin at E-4.

Flare Gun

This subweapon fires directly above the player and can pass through obstacles. It awaits in the Inferno Cavern at C-4.

Bomb

This subweapon is thrown in an arc and causes multiple explosions. However, the player will take damage if caught in those explosions. Find it in the Graveyard of the Giants at E-3.

Pistol

Acquired only late in the game, it deals an incredible amount of damage. Sadly the high cost for ammunition makes it almost useless, except for finding 2 ROMs. It can be found on the Surface at J-2.

Shield Sub-Weapons

Buckler

A small shield that protects from weak projectiles. However, it is simply too small to be useful. Can be bought for 80 coins on the Surface at G-4.

Fake Silver Shield

Can be bought for 150 coins in the Graveyard of the Giants at A-1.

Silver Shield

A larger shield that can deflect stronger enemy shots. Can be found in the Graveyard of the Giants at B-2.

Angel Shield

Sometimes referred to as the Aegis Shield, it can deflect almost all enemy shots. Can be found in the Dimensional Corridor at B-3.

Miscellaneous Sub-Weapons

Hand Scanner

Sometimes referred to as the Handy Scanner, it allows you to investigate things like skeletons and/or areas. When used with the Glyph Reader ROM, you can read tablets. Can be bought for 20 coins on the Surface at G-4. The Scanner in a shop in the Twin Labyrinths is a fake, but you must buy it in order to get access to another shop with the Dragon Bone.

Bullets

Essential for using the Pistol, holds six shots. Only one extra pack may be carried at a time.

Ankh Jewel

Used to destroy Ankhs and summon the Guardians. Only 8 Ankh Jewels exist.
